Bakuchiol

I found this rather interesting article, written by Katy Young who is Group Luxury Beauty Director, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle UK and Town and Country UK, and Former Beauty Director, The Telegraph:

"Today, the latest ingredient to raise eyebrows, if you still can, is bakuchiol. You have probably seen its name branded on bottles and heard its praise from the mouths of the needle-averse, because it is impressive, and also by the way, vegan.

A plant-derived ingredient, bakuchiol has been used in Chinese medicine for aeons, thanks to its soothing and anti-inflammatory effect. In skincare, this means it works to ease redness and sensitivity, while it also helps calm angry, acne-prone skin. Over in the lab, scientists have recently discovered that this little plant also works big on fading discolouration and evening out skin tone and texture. A potent anti-oxidant it goes on to protect the skin from stress, sun and pollution well too. And that’s all before we talk about its wrinkle-smoothing abilities.

Bakuchiol has a lovely ‘leg up’ effect when paired with retinol, the other wrinkle-smoothing superstar. A double-whammy, bakuchiol encourages retinoid derivatives to work harder for longer, while also stabilising their volatile nature so that skin can better tolerate their smoothing effects. Used alone it does also provide a great gentle choice, some coining it the natural alternative to retinol thanks to the way it encourages the skin to produce cells, collagen and elastin more quickly, while it also shrinks pores and improves skin texture. For those advised against using retinol, during pregnancy or breastfeeding say, it’s an excellent option."

The above sums things up rather neatly and I have now included some of the products from Medik8.
